A new paper was published in the June 2016 issue of the American Journal of Sports Medicine looking at the effectiveness of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) in the treatment of chronic tendon injuries. The study concluded that “There is good evidence to support the use of a single injection of PRP under ultrasound guidance in tendinopathy.”

However, the authors were careful to point out the following: “Both the preparation and intratendinous injection technique of PRP appear to be of great clinical significance.

In other words, if the PRP isn’t prepared properly, or injected properly, the results will not be as good. So you need a very good physicianwho is using a very good quality PRP.

At Valley Sports Physicians Dr. Tortland is an internationally recognized expert in ultrasound guided musculoskeletal injections. He also developed and pioneered his own proprietary method for creating a high quality PRP. So you can be assured of excellence both in the preparation of our PRP and in the injection technique!

Dr. Tortland was among a list of international speakers at the 7th annual Orthobiologic Institute PRP & Stem Cell Symposium. The annual event features lectures and workshops focused both on sharing the latest in PRP and stem cell science for orthopedic conditions and for training physicians in various regenerative medicine techniques.

Dr. Tortland spoke as part of a panel discussion exploring the use of bone marrow-derived vs. fat-derived stem cells. Click here to see Dr. Tortland’s comments. Dr. Tortland also was one of the faculty teaching a hands-on workshop on how to perform bone marrow aspirations for stem cell harvesting.

PRP Effective for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Six-month efficacy of platelet-rich plasma for carpal tunnel syndrome: A prospective randomized, single-blind controlled trial.

Recently, a few small reports with short follow-up period have shown clinical benefits of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for peripheral neuropathy including one pilot study and one small, non-randomized trial in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Therefore, we conducted a randomized, single-blind, controlled trial to assess the 6-month effect of PRP in patients with CTS. Sixty patients with unilateral mild-to-moderate CTS were randomized into two groups of 30, namely the PRP and control groups. In the PRP group, patients were injected with one dose of 3 mL of PRP using ultrasound guidance and the control group received a night splint through the study period. The primary outcome measure was the visual analog scale (VAS) and secondary outcome measures included the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire (BCTQ) score, the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the median nerve (MN), electrophysiological findings of the MN, and finger pinch strength. The evaluation was performed before treatment and at 1, 3, and 6 months post-injection. The PRP group exhibited a significant reduction in the VAS score, BCTQ score, and CSA of MN compared to the those of control group 6 months post-treatment (p < 0.05). Our study demonstrates that PRP is a safe modality that effectively relieves pain and improves disability in the patients with CTS.

Posted on Releases New Website! just got a significant face lift and we’re proud to present what we trust is a much more enjoyable user experience with easy ways to purchase, view and even download our Training Videos!

Before we take a look at what’s new, let’s talk about how to log in to your existing account.

How to Access Your Old Account

As part of the upgrade to the site we were able to preserve all our old customer data – that means you still have access to all your past purchases, invoices, and videos! In some cases we were able to combine your purchases under a single account (several of you had purchased as ‘guests’ and were not able to track your videos under the same account).

To gain access to your old account simply use the Password Reset Tool and enter the email you used to log into our old site (the same as the email we would have used to send you invoices in the past).

The system will generate an email that will walk you through the login process with a new password.

You should be able to see all your old invoices and purchases automatically!

Here are some links you might find helpful:

Download Purchased Videos

Many of you had asked for the ability to download the videos you’ve purchased through the site and we’re glad to announce that now you can!

Click “watch” on any of your Purchased Videos to view the video itself and gain access to the “Download” button. Clicking the “Download” button will now download a high-resolution copy of the video directly to your computer.
